Teachable Moments

I have been learning how to color correct my images this morning, after coffee. No big adventures planned today, but are they ever planned? We wanted to go camping, but we need to do a little more research on the place. It’s not like in the Northwest where you just go up to the mountains and pick a spot and camp. Well, there are campgrounds there as well, but sometimes it is nice(aside from the lack of toilets) to not camp next to John and Jane Doe in their RV with their yelping chihuahua and their electricity generator.

Too DelicatePurple Roses

Last night we doused ourselves in bugspray and went to a carnival. For the first time we all rode rides together. We gave the kids a good dose of  scary rides, because before they just stayed on the ones that went in circles. Jonas and I rode the scrambler and the ferris wheel together. The scrambler goes much faster than I remember. My brain felt like it was being pushed to the back of my scull. He screamed the whole time, but wasn’t scared, and came out with an ear to ear smile. Josh rode with Trinity and took her on the umbrella things that go really fast at a tilt. The kids rode the swings together and it scared me more than anything. Trinity was way too brave. It was a really fun night.

Carnival Guns
You thought the “beer summit” was sending the wrong message!
Josh took this photo.

I was beside myself when Jonas looked over at me and said “mommy, I gonna shoot you!” This is one of those teachable moments, isn’t it? Isn’t it?! Speaking of beer, since when do people walk around with buckets full of it? I have never seen that while living in the Northwest-but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I did see people with wine glass necklaces at the Newport, OR wine festival.

Sturdy Shopping

We got our shopping “bags” tonight!!

We ended up getting them at Target anyway because we checked out the ones at Dollar Tree and they are TINY!! These where like six dollars each, but we figure with all the grocery shopping we do they will get major major usage. Not to mention most of the vendors at the farmer market automatically bag in plastic t-shirt bags for each individual vegetable. Luckily today we were able to cut down on bags by bringing along our little cooler. I had SO much fun there… we weren’t there for too long, but we got a ton of good veggies and the kids got to play a banjo and the banjo guy sun while they played. :) Trinity got another matryoshka doll at one of the trinket vendors(it’s like Saturday market, only the nonfood goods are pretty much made in China dimestore hippie crap) and the lady GAVE jonas a little wooden doggie that is a puzzle that opens.

Here is a random picture of a horse that we saw on our little exploration trip of Illinois:
Someone's horse

Coraline was a little too much for the kids. Trinity stayed up half the night & Jonas said he had bad dreams and he never does. After the movie he was all zombie and wierded out. They never seem to get that bugged out about scary stuff… but I don’t think they watch too much of it. The last movies I think were a little scary for them was neverending story(the wolf was scary) and Trinity watched Return To Oz with Marina when she was like 3, but I don’t think she remembered it. It scared the ship out of me!! We kept reminding them that Coraline was a. fake & b. had a good ending. I think it would have been different if they watched it in the middle of the day.

While I was at school…

There is a snowcone stand about 1/4 mi. from our house. Josh took the kids there & took this picture.
Jonas learned to ride his bike finally, all the way(like starting w/ out us)
so this is his reward.

Me? Excited? Nawwwww.

Forest Park | St. Louis

Tonight totally made up for this weekend. The weekend wasn’t horrible, but it was what it was. Ugh. Anywho… we got out of the house and walked around the central west end(St. Louis’s equivalent of the Pearl District or NW 23rd for those of you who are Portlanders) we took Chloe and she horked in the car, but we walked all around the extravagant row houses and she had a great time getting lots of love from strangers. We also stopped for gelato before dinner.

Then we drove over and parked at The Muny (Municipal Theater) and took a billion pictures. We saw a ton of turtles and ducks and I found another broken robin’s egg on the ground complete with poor little dead bird fetus inside. Robin’s must have a shit-ton of predators. After walking around the gazebo @ the muny, we walked over to the Boat House restaurant and ate outside with Chloe. More petting & dog loving ensued and we took tons of pictures of the lake and watched people launch off in their little foot peddle boats. There were baby ducks and more turtles waiting to get a little bit of our food or some croutons from the waiter.

Before dinner we met a huge poofball dog named Murphy. He was like a giant cotton ball. He was so big and soft… IDK a giant poodle or something. Well, when we were being seated for dinner we looked out on the lake-naturally. Then we hear this guy yell “MURPHY!!!” and we look over and Murphy had gotten off leash and decided to chase the ducks in the lake and got all soaked. It was pretty hilarious.

We got home just in time to see the Fourth of July fireworks that they decided to launch tonight instead(due to the rain & whatnot last night) We walked out to the big field by our house, but we got eaten alive by bugs and started to walk back to the house. We took some pics over the peanut lake so that the fireworks reflected off of it, then arrived at our apartment and sat with our neighbors–which actually happened to be the best seat in the house! The fireworks were directly in front of us!

City Museum & Birthday Party!

Josh and I went with Jonas to the St. Louis City Museum.

…it is only like 2 seconds long.
More City Museum pics in my flickr.

Presents & Pancakes!

What do you like best? Explain.

1. Pancakes
2. Waffles
3. Crepes
4. French Toast
5. Other

For Christmas breakfast we had French Toast. It was yummy!

I got a pair of nylon-y yoga pants from Aunt Mary. Weird because I have been wearing cotton ones and they are cheap and fade easily & I wished for nylon ones. The nylon will look less worn, in theory. This will be nice for going to the YMCA.

Kids have been playing in their room ever since receiving their gifts. This is the most time they have ever spent in there. Good indication that Christmas was a success.

This is the dollhouse that Josh built for Trinity. She was very proud to receive this gift. She couldn’t believe he MADE it for her.

Mario and a Witch

I am thinking about this dollhouse for Trinity for Xmas and this toolset thing for Jonas. Of COURSE they are only available online, so I will have to order them soon, but I think Trinity will love building something like that with Josh(and I) and collecting all the accessories over time and Jonas has pointed out tool set type things in every Sunday paper ad. I think Toys R Us has the toolset in the store, but it is more expensive and their dollhouses are WAY expensive there.

I was also thinking about getting a few calico critters for the dollhouse, but I am not sure size wise how that would go. Any one have any thoughts?

Anyway, I asked Josh about it, and he thinks that Jonas would be more interested in getting a nice haul of Lego’s… which I think he may be right about that one.

Here are a few pics from Halloween:

This one is forever going to remind me of Life Is Beautiful when little Giosue leaps out of the cupboard to scare his mama in his underwear.
